• All new Out of State and Montana title work will be processed daily until 4 pm on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Title work will be limited to 3 title transactions per registering customer.
• Registration renewals will be processed daily until 4:30 pm.
• If you purchased any type of vehicle car, truck, RV, ATV, boat, or motorcycle from a dealership, you will receive a postcard from this office stating that we have your title work, and listing any extra requirements needed to process your new registration and title work.
• If you purchased any type of vehicle from a private party, please let us know in advance so we may help you with all required paperwork that needs to be completed.

Title Transfers for New Montana Residents

• The out-of-state title is required in order to title your vehicle in Montana.  If the title is being held by a lienholder, it will need to be requested from the lender by using the Request for Foreign Title form which can also be obtained in the Treasurer's office.  
• Your current out-of-state registration will be requested in order to process a one-time,  40 day Temporary Registration Permit (TRP) for $ 20.09, if a TRP is needed until the title arrives.
• Driver's license or government issued ID and proof of physical residence (2 forms) in Sanders County are required to process a title transfer and registration for new residents.

PROOF OF RESIDENCY

• To prove residency, you must provide TWO of the following  forms of physical address (from different categories) THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Current Montana income tax return
  • Current payroll check stub from a local business
  • Current local utility bill
  • Buyer closing statement for residential property (land with a house/home)
  • The original rental/lease agreement OR receipt for payment that includes your name, address, and is signed by landlord/agent (this does not include bare land).
  • Montana driver's license

The following CAN NOT BE USED AS A RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS:

• Business Address
• PO Box
• Mail box rental address (UPS store, etc.)

Online Renewals

• Online renewals are processed by the State of Montana and can be completed only if there are no changes made to your vehicle registration. If changes are to be made to your renewal, you must call or come in person to Sanders County to renew.

Montana Driver's Licenses

• Montana Driver's Licenses are processed by the State of Montana.

• Sanders County Treasurer's office processes motor vehicles transactions only.
