Sanders County Refuse District is a non-profit enterprise business that encompasses a Transfer Site in Thompson Falls and roll-off sites in Plains, Trout Creek, Noxon, and Heron. The District, along with the Hot Springs and Dixon Refuse Districts, is governed by a Board of Commissioners. Please see the forms below for schedules, recycling details, and more information about the west-end refuse sites.

Refuse District Board Meetings: Third Wednesday in the Commissioners Conference Room.

Agendas are posted in the agenda center.

All Sites are closed on Federal holidays. Sites do not have 'makeup' days for those holidays.   We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Resource Directory

Hazardous Waste

Sanders County does not collect hazardous waste but is working with MDEQ to hold an event in the future. Please check the link 'Missoula Haz. Waste' below for more information in Missoula. They will accept out-of-county hazardous waste, but a fee will apply.

Recycling

Sanders County actively promotes recycling. Due to current market conditions and high transportation costs, Sanders County can no longer accept plastics or paper for recycling. Please click on the information sheet below titled 'Current News on Recycling Plastics.' Republic Recycling at 3207 W Broadway in Missoula, (406)-721-1120, accepts Number 1 and Number 2 plastics (transparent) and mixed paper. Plastic grocery bags can be taken to Albertsons, Walmart, and Target.

Check out our Recycling Brochure (found under 'Information' below), which lists the items we accept. It also provides ideas on what to do with items we can't take. Recycling decreases the amount of refuse we haul to Missoula and helps keep the fees lower.
